Go to a Game in the Estado Olímpico Universitario
The stadium was the first building to be built on what is now the Ciudad Universitaria campus. It is also part of the main campus that the UNESCO recognized as a World Heritage Site.
On its eastern side, the stadium bears a mural by Diego Rivera called La Universidad, la familia mexicana, la paz y la juventud deportista (The University, Mexican Family, Peace, and Athletic Youth). With naturally colored stones, the artist created the university’s coat of arms with a condor and an eagle perched on a nopal cactus. Under their spread wings, there are three figures, representing a father and mother giving their child a dove of peace. On the edges, there are two figures of athletes, a man and a woman, who are lighting an Olympic torch. A feathered serpent, the symbolic image of the pre-Hispanic god Quetzalcóatl, finishes the composition.
