Visit a Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
- Website Go to website
Santuario El Rosario is five miles southwest of Angangueo, in Ocampo. This municipality is home to the most visited butterfly sanctuary in eastern Michoacán. The area takes its name from the tiny town of El Rosario, which is almost two miles southwest of El Campanario, a massive hill where monarch butterflies gather in its sacred fir, cedar, and pine forests. The colorful, picture-perfect scene begs to be admired and photographed. The sanctuary can be reached on foot or horseback.
