Ixmiquilpan
This town, located 33 miles from Huichapan, is covered by nopal cactuses and surrounded by water parks fed by natural hot springs. Here, stop by Templo y Convento de San Miguel Arcángel, a church with a plateresque facade and ceilings with ribbed vaults. The church and convent complex also hold a series of interesting 16th-century murals. Other landmarks to visit include the churrigueresque-style Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen church and Puente de la Otra Banda, a remarkable colonial-era bridge over the Tula river.
