Las Mojarras: The Largest Cenote in Puerto Morelos

Las Mojarras is a cenote sinkhole whose shape resembles an eye seemingly gazing at the reflection of the clouds in the sky.

On the cenote route of Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo lies Las Mojarras, an expansive open cenote, the largest in the region. Locals named it for the abundance of trout, or mojarra, found in its waters. It spans 246 feet in diameter, reaches depths of 46 feet, and is surrounded by indigenous flora and fauna.

Activities at Las Mojarras

At this cenote, visitors can try activities such as horseback riding, camping in the vicinity, and, of course, swimming in the cenote. Here you can relax in hammocks, grill your own food in designated areas, and go hiking. There’s also the option to glide across the cenote via a zip line and, midway, plunge into the water. Test your balance on a tightrope without falling into the water, traverse hanging bridges, or explore the jungle on all-terrain vehicles.
