Dos Estrellas Mine

Mina Dos Estrellas
Mina Dos Estrellas

Head a mile along the road to El Oro, and you can visit this mine. Part of the underground mine, houses, and workshops are open to visitors. It is worth venturing into the old mine, seeing a mine shaft, and getting a closer look at the region’s mining heritage in the various exhibits.

During the first decade of the 20th century, this mine was the world’s top gold producer, bringing prosperity to the region. During the time of the Mexican Revolution most of the country’s mines closed, while Dos Estrellas continued to operate, although most of its production went to England. The museum encompasses the mine tunnel, old maintenance shops, neighboring green spaces, and forest. It also displays a collection of objects, documents, photos, and diagrams.
