Archeological Museum of Mazatlán
Museo Arqueológico de Mazatlán- Phone number Call
Opened in 1989, the Archeological Museum curates archeological pieces from the various phases and periods of the Aztatlán culture, as well as from the early and late postclassical periods along the northern Mesoamerican border. Inside the neoclassical building from the beginning of the 20th century are five permanent galleries displaying around 200 pieces, including scale models, implements, clothing, and petroglyphs.
The section about religion and funerary customs presents exhibits of idols and petroglyphs, gods and symbols. Here, you can learn a little more about the playing of Ulama—a ball game played with hips—the clothing worn in the game, and related items. Other interesting galleries include one dedicated to clothing and ornamentation, and another on the connections between pre-Hispanic cultures and the arrival of the Spanish.
