If you visit Guanajuato without seeing its star inhabitants, the mummies, you might as well not have come. Shrouded in an air of mystery, this city’s mummies are famous for how incredibly well-conserved they are.
The Mummy Museum, located in the center of the city, houses more than 100 bodies of men, women and children exhumed between 1865 and 1989. It was renovated in 2007 to offer an even more entertaining experience, and since then it has been divided into various themed galleries.
Each body has a story to tell: some are romantic, others are tragic, and there are those that will leave you with your heart in your mouth. This is the case with the famous baby mummy, the smallest mummy in the world, who they say died in its mother’s womb.
