Town Hall and La Cerería Cultural Center
Palacio Municipal and Casa de CulturaThe Town Hall (Palacio Municipal) is the oldest in Mexico. It has served as the town hall since the 16th century. Note the pillars.
The building housing the Cultural Center dates from the 16th century, when it was a candle factory called La Cerería. The settlement was a stopping point on the way to the city of Tenochtitlan, and a place to stock up on candles. It also served as Emiliano Zapata’s barracks. It’s currently the Cultural Center, a leisure center and museum where you can learn about Tlayacapan’s history and traditions.
