Villa del Carbón Parish Church
Parroquia de la Virgen de la Peña de FranciaThis church, which took 40 years to build and features a facade with two Romanesque stone towers, is a must-see.
It features an 18th-century Romanesque style building. The interior boasts a main nave with a barrel-vaulted ceiling and is where you can find the painting of the Virgin of the Rock of France, brought from Salamanca, Spain.
The church is a symbol of the community, from which the name of Villa de Carbón is derived. Long ago, people referred to it as “La iglesia de Villanueva donde hacen el carbón” (the church of Villanueva where they make coal).
