Expiatorio de Yuriria Church
This church was built in 1697 by Friar Diego de Chávez y Alvarado. The town’s oldest church, its history goes back to the Augustine tradition of building a small church before erecting the main parish church. The building was once used as a hospital, where indigenous patients were treated for diseases such as malaria. Moreover, it also provided lodgings for those who arrived from long missions and even was barracks during its later years. Today, it holds the Our Lady of Good Counsel.
