San Francisco Church and Convent

Templo San Francisco en San Luis Potosí

Another set of buildings that graces San Luis Potosí is the San Francisco Church and Convent. Built between 1591 and 1686, today this is one of the most important baroque-style structures. The sacristy is especially notable, as it is an example of the state’s best religious architecture.

The 17th-century convent holds the Regional History Museum. Inside, you can admire the famous Aranzazú Chapel from the mid-18th century. It is a clear example of baroque style from the Potosí region, encompassing significant Churrigueresque influences. Connected to the convent and once part of the compound are the churches of the Third Order and the Sacred Heart.
