University of Guanajuato
The state’s university, Universidad de Guanajuato, one of the oldest in Latin America, opened its doors in the 18th century as a Jesuit school. Today, the Universidad de Guanajuato has buildings scattered throughout the city. The main one, a block from the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato church, is best known for its stunning architecture. It is built of green limestone in the neoclassical style.
The structure houses the rectory and administrative offices in addition to a church and natural history museum. Its most iconic element? Its famous staircase with 113 stone stairs. Be sure to visit and snap a picture on its steps!
