Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve
A rich array of plant and animal life.

Ría Celestún is located about 56 miles from the city of Mérida. This natural reserve is unique because it is the main feeding zone for the area’s pink flamingos, home to 95 resident bird species and 75 migratory ones. The best way to tour it is by hopping on a boat in Celestún to visit the flamingo colony and tour the coastal dune, estuary, mangrove, petén, and swamp ecosystems.
