El Cruce is an opportunity to swim among the beautiful and clear waters of this region in Quintana Roo, amidst the diversity of its flora and fauna, providing one of the country’s best adventure experiences. 

Open water swimming competitions have gained popularity in recent years internationally, so it’s no surprise that this event has a participant registration including swimmers hailing from over 18 different countries and 22 Mexican states.

Important Information 

• The route runs from Cancun to Isla Mujeres and is one of the state’s most important events. 
• The event takes place in May. 
• It features various distances: Half Iron Swim (1.2 miles), Iron Swim (2.4 miles), and the complete Crossing (6.2 miles). 
• Likewise, it has different categories: female, male, children, youth, master, athletes, and differently-abled. 
• The crossing time varies depending on the swimmer’s condition, ocean currents, and weather. The record stands at 1 hour and 39 minutes. 
• Registration opens in October. 
• Swimmers’ companions are welcome to cross aboard a ferry that follows the competitors during their journey. 
• Upon finishing the competition, you arrive at Isla Mujeres. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the day at the beach after exerting physical effort.
