Danzón in Parque Zamora

In the Port of Veracruz’s main square, danzón is danced in a very particular way; the women hold a fan, wear white dresses and high heels, and boast gold jewelry and pearl and coral necklaces; the men look elegant and impeccable in their guayaberas (traditional linen shirts) and hats.
With the chords’ subtlety and sensuality, the most important thing is style and the way you carry yourself. They trace squares into the floor with their feet, and turn rhythmically to the 3 or 4 beat time signatures, and when they rest, they applaud the orchestra.
