Independence Day

Día de la Independencia

On the night of September 15th, the Grito de Dolores takes place. This is the traditional commemoration of the start of the War of Independence. The president performs “el grito” (the shout) every year in Palacio Nacional, calling for a long life for the republic. Thousands of Mexicans watch from the Zócalo square. The spectacular celebration includes fireworks that light up the entire city.
