International Whale Shark Day: Responsible Tourism

Whale sharks visit the Caribbean every year, and this festival was born as part of an initiative to raise awareness about their protection and care. It is celebrated every August 30^th with photography shows, conferences, and outreach about the famous fish.

The Reserva de la Biosfera Tiburón Ballena (Whale Shark Biosphere Reserve) and the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Yum Balam (Yum Balam Flora and Fauna Reserve) are the setting.

Remember:

• Do NOT touch them (ensure a minimum distance of 16 feet and 33 from a boat).
• Do NOT use flash photography.
• Do NOT use sunblock or other non-biodegradable skin products.
