The fair was first held in 1974, mainly a cattle, industrial, and handicraft expo for the state of Yucatan. Over time, it has grown to encompass large parking lots, restaurants, cattle stands, a grandstand, rides, a circus, and many, many commercial stands.
It is put on during November, although it was suspended in 2020 because of the pandemic; 2021 will be its 47th year.
