Veracruz Afro-Caribbean Festival showcases the relationship between Cuba and Veracruz through its historical links, architectural heritage and cultural exchange. Carnivals, dance and music have remained identifying characteristics through which black heritage can be expressed and celebrated. Similarly, food with African roots exerts great culinary influence in Veracruz.
The festival takes place in November; it involves film showings, conferences and workshops in different venues around Boca del Río. It also offers Afro-Cuban dance and danzón concerts, which represent Veracruz’s musical culture.
Artists and promoters of the visual arts in Veracruz, such as Néstor Andrade, contribute to deepening our understanding of the nature of Veracruz’s society and the festive atmosphere that defines it.
Experience its open-air activities or visit its cultural centers, public squares and recreational forums. Make sure to check the schedule, because some of these activities are planned to take place virtually, due to the pandemic situation.
