Feast Day of the Patron Saint

Fiesta del Señor de los Afligidos

In the town of El Llanito, located only 4 miles to the south of Dolores Hidalgo, the new year kicks off with a big celebration in honor of the Señor de los Afligidos, the town’s patron saint. During the day, in the central square, pre-Hispanic Otomí dances take place, there are fairground rides and snacks, and at night, a colorful fireworks display. The faithful go to church to pay homage to his sacred image and pray for miracles. If you like Mexican culture and traditions, this is, without a doubt, a celebration that will fascinate you.

When: January 1st

Useful Information: Señor San Salvador Consuelo de los Afligidos, the town’s Christ, is fiercely protected by locals. There is always at least one guardian inside the church at all times, keeping him safe.
