Harvest Festivals

Summertime is typically the season to celebrate the grape harvest. Along the wine route, the fifty festivals which take place each year between the last week of July and the third weekend of August can be found in Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, Puerta Norte, the Old Wine Route and Ojos Negros. The events on offer are varied: The Salón de Vino (the wine room; a kind of winemaking show that opens the season in Ensenada), winery visits, pairing dinners, barbecues, wine appreciation workshops, street parties and cultural festivals. There are even live music events. To close the festivities on the third Sunday in August, there is a much-loved paella contest. Many wineries organize their own offering based on their preferences, but some of the events are collective, with a number of local institutions, companies and organizations involved.
