Day of the Dead in Ocotepec

The night of October 31st, the town comes out in procession to the cemeteries, offerings in hand. The recently departed are honored with what they call “Ofrendas Nuevas.” These new offerings are set up on a table to create the body of the dead which is dressed in new clothes, sandals, sombrero, or shawl. Traditional sugar skulls are placed by the head and surrounded by the deceased’s favorite food and drink.
