Services in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is considered the entrance to the Riviera Maya. Situated between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, roughly 18 miles from both, it’s a charming town known for its tranquility and delectable cuisine.

A haven for scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, the town attracts visitors year-round to explore Puerto Morelos National Reef Park, just half a mile off the coast. Corals, turtles, lobsters, stingrays, and various shark species are some examples of marine life that can be found in the reef’s waters.

While here, you can visit Croco Cun Zoo, a small regional zoo where you can get up close and personal with Morelet’s crocodiles. You can also explore the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín Botanical Garden, spanning 148 acres of rainforest and mangroves.

The beaches are another highlight of Puerto Morelos. Their colors, fine sand, and gentle waves–courtesy of the reef which acts as an ocean barrier–allow for swimming with kids. Kayaking, learning windsurfing, or simply relaxing and floating on the ocean are other alternatives.

Things to do in Puerto Morelos

Exploring the colors and diversity of the reef is the main activity in Puerto Morelos, but it’s not the only thing to enjoy in this Quintana Roo town.

Leave all traces of civilization behind with one of the tours that will take you into the jungle, whether on horseback, ATV, or mountain bike. It’s an unforgettable experience that connects you with nature while discovering animals, cenotes, and archeological ruins.

Surrounded by rainforest and crystal-clear water in the cenotes, you can swim, dive, glide down zip lines, and even rent bikes or ATVs. Our favorites include La Noria–perfect for diving, swimming, or sunbathing on its floating platform–and Verde Lucero–an open-air cenote with small caves to explore.

During your visit, you have to explore the town’s restaurants, serving fresh fish and seafood prepared in various delightful ways.
