“Zacatecas has pink quarry stone skin and a silver heart”, is the phrase used by its inhabitants to describe this beautiful colonial city, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Surrounded by impressive nature (the Cerro de la Bufa in particular), the urban layout consists of narrow streets and squares that enclose small pieces of history, especially from the revolutionary era, the glory days of mining and the visit from Pope John Paul II.
Today it is also one of the top destinations for enjoying art, from colorful Huichol embroidery to the paintings of Goitia, Ruelas, Felguérez and the Coronel brothers. Besides, here you can go up in a cable car for the incredible panoramic views of the city, and explore the interesting El Edén mine.
