Shrimp, both fresh and cooked, is plentiful in El Rosario. The region’s specialty is pescado zarandeado, a grilled fish served with breaded shrimp, as well as fish wrapped up in foil with octopus and shrimp. Nearby Laguna del Caimanero produces one of the world’s best yields of estuary shrimp. It is a good idea to ask about the catch of the day, as these options are sometimes not listed on the menu or are seasonal, such as scallops. There are also restaurants serving cuts of meat and colored tamales, made with pieces of corn plant.
