Green, leatherback, and hawksbill turtles all come to Mazunte to lay their eggs, but the olive ridley turtle is the species that most reproduces on these beaches. Because of this, the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga (Mexican Turtle Center) seeks to promote the best management, conservation, and development practices for these reptiles. The center has a preservation program, and from March to November they release sea turtles.
