Three key spots to dig into the culture and traditions of Oaxaca’s people.
Visiting the city of Oaxaca must also be accompanied by a tour of the nearby towns to get to know and collect the creations of local artisans. San Bartolo Coyotepec, only 15 minutes away, is a town known for creating black pottery. To see colorful, magical alebrije creatures come to life, head to the Zapotec town of San Martín Tilcajete, where generations of families have carved wood into fantastical figures.
Teotitlán del Valle is another must-see town. Its woolen rugs, colored with natural dyes, are spectacular.
