Old Salt Mine on Isla del Carmen
On Isla del Carmen you can still see the remains of what used to be the world’s biggest salt mine, natural in origin, during its period of operation.
From Loreto, it’s a two-hour boat ride. Once you arrive, you’ll feel like you’re in a ghost town. The first thing likely to catch your eye is the old lighthouse and the shipwreck. As you keep walking, you will come across old buildings constructed using coral as their base; the school, a church, a bank, and houses, inside which old objects used by their previous inhabitants can still be found.
