Our Lady of Loreto Mission
Misión de Nuestra Señora de LoretoThis was the mother of all of Baja California’s missions. It was founded in 1697 and it was from here that Jesuit priests departed in order to evangelize the new territory of America.
From the Baroque-style church, you can see the bell tower, the main Churrigueresque Baroque altarpiece, and the original image of the virgin of Nuestra Señora de Loreto (Our Lady of Loreto). Looking at the original paintings from the viceroyalty period, you will see how the missionaries assimilated into the Baja Californian community and their way of life.
