In the direction of the old road towards Coatepec, on Km 2.5, you will find the Jardín Botánico Francisco Javier Clavijero and the Santuario Bosque de Niebla. The first is a botanical garden from the INECOL (Institute of Ecology) and exhibits approximately 1,100 plant species distributed across 20 acres of land. Their collection of cycads is particularly striking. Considered “living fossils”, these plants have existed since the Jurassic period. The garden has seven sections: Acahual, Arboretum, Jardín Formal, Estanque Pinetum, Palmetum, Plantas Útiles (Useful Plants) and Bosque Mesófilo de Montaña (Mountainous Cloud Forest).
The main attraction here is the mile and half long trail known as the Santuario Bosque de Niebla. In the Mist Forest Sanctuary, walkers and lovers of nature and sport can discover the beauty of the forest.
