Atotonilco Church

Santuario de Atotonilco

Considered Mexico’s Sistine Chapel, Atotonilco Church is a priceless artistic and architecture gem. Discover altarpieces, oil paintings, sculptures, and murals—many of which created by the famous criollo (mixed race) painter Antonio Martínez de Pocasangre. This is where the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe that Priest Miguel Hidalgo waved at the start of the War of Independence came from.
