A winter paradise in the heart of the Tarahumara Mountains
Creel is widely known as the entrance to the Copper Canyon region, but the experience begins long before reaching the canyon viewpoints. Set within the forests of the Sierra Tarahumara, the town marks the starting point of a journey through mountain landscapes, railway routes, and communities that have lived in balance with the terrain for generations. From here, roads lead toward dramatic overlooks suspended above deep canyons, as well as trails connecting lakes, rock formations, and Raramuri settlements. Creel is more than a stop along the way—it is the beginning of one of the most memorable explorations in northern Mexico.
The Signature Experience
A mountain park where panoramic viewpoints, hiking trails, a cable car, and outdoor activities allow visitors to appreciate the scale of the canyon landscape.
Hidden within the Sierra Tarahumara is a landscape filled with tall rock formations that resemble stone figures rising from the ground. Known as the Valley of the Monks, these formations were shaped by wind and rain over millions of years. Local legends say the rocks were once monks turned to stone during meditation.
Near Creel lies Lake Arareko, surrounded by forest and part of the Raramuri community of San Ignacio Arareko. The lake is a peaceful place for walking, kayaking, or simply enjoying the quiet atmosphere of the mountains.
This museum offers insight into the history, traditions, and worldview of the Raramuri people through exhibitions of artifacts, crafts, and cultural interpretation.
Located on a hill above the town, this monument offers one of the best panoramic views of Creel and the surrounding forests, particularly at sunset.
