The Museo Subacuatico de Arte is Mexico’s first underwater museum. It includes more than 500 life-size sculptures created by several artists and installed using marine-grade cement designed to support coral growth.
One of the artists, British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, is also the museum’s founder. A diver, naturalist, and photographer, he developed the project as a way to support reef restoration after the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
