Folkloric Festival of Veracruz

The Festival Folklórico de Veracruz Miguel Vélez Arceo, organized by the Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad Veracruzana, aims to bring together the folkloric artistic community of Veracruz and Mexico, to intervene in different cultural spaces within the Universidad Veracruzana de Xalapa and the hole state of Veracruz, with the objective of representing the rich nature of folklore, an important source of their sense of identity.

This festival strongly impacts on Xalapa society because it draws in around 11,000 spectators and receives around 1,600 folkloric artists and musicians every year. Mexican folklore companies participate in this event, as well as state and local companies, and groups of other kinds of popular dance (salsa, danzón, malambo, hip-hop, and belly dance).

During the months of March and April, Xalapa is transformed into a dance Mecca. Make sure you don’t miss it!
