For a getaway that involves extreme adventure and high mountains, we recommend you visit Veracruz’s famous attraction: Cofre de Perote; the eighth highest mountain in Mexico, declared a National Park and Protected Natural Area (ANP) in 1937. Here you can climb all the way to its peak, entering through the town of El Conejo. Follow these trails guided by the experts who live here.
For canyoning and zip-line enthusiasts, the La Murcielaguera canyon is an excellent option. You will find clear water and caves with vertical walls between 30 and 230-feet-tall, a rhinoceros beetle sanctuary, hummingbirds, bats, and reptiles.
After a busy day filled with activities, enjoy some typical mountain food. In the center of Perote you will find many different varieties of candy, bread and cured meats. Don’t miss the chance to take home some of the region’s handicrafts.
