Chapel of the Holy Cross
This chapel was built towards the end of the 17th century. Before it was a chapel it was just a piece of timber, several meters tall, in the shape of a cross. It was placed on top of a stone block, and called the Santo Madero (Holy Timber). On May 3rd every year, the religious festival of the Día de la Santa Cruz (Day of the Holy Cross) takes place, and one of the main activities is the danza de Matlachines, in which the dancers follow a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation.
