Main Square and Town Hall
Jardín Principal and Palacio MunicipalClimb up the stairs to witness the special beauty of this square and its porticos
The first thing you’ll notice in Amealco is its unparalleled main square, the Plaza de la Constitución, a.k.a. Jardín Principal. This tiered square has steps leading to the center. Pay attention to the gorgeous archways of the porches that line the square. You can do this while resting on one of the benches.
Built in the 17th century, the Palacio Municipal or Town Hall is located on the square’s east side. While today the building serves as the town hall, it was originally a residential home built with stone walls, wood beam mezzanines, and cement-covered brick.
