At the beginning of the 20th century this area was occupied by the former Fundidora Monterrey smelter–in the center you can still see the old Horno Alto 3 furnace built between 1965 and 1968, when between 1,500 and 2,000 tons of molten iron was produced per day. Thanks to these ironworks, Fundidora Monterrey reached an annual production of one million tons of steel, making it the number one steel mill in Latin America.

Now it is home to a large cultural center full of exhibits, events, and cultural services. Notably, there is Center for the Arts I, housing the state’s film center and photographic library; while Center for the Arts II houses the theater known as Teatro de las Artes. The old furnace hosts a museum and interactive center promoting science and technology.

Don’t leave without visiting the Cima, offering sweeping views of the capital city.
