Where Is Playa del Secreto, and How Do You Get There? 

This virgin beach is nestled in the heart of the Riviera Maya, situated between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos. 

The road to this natural paradise is along the Cancún-Tulum highway, specifically on the stretch between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen. Keep in mind that if you don’t have a car, you’ll need to walk approximately half a mile after getting off the bus, which will drop you off on the highway.

Hidden Treasures Near Playa del Carmen 

The mangroves lining this beach provide a habitat for a wide variety of seabirds, while its shores are home to crabs and the nesting grounds for turtles. It’s the perfect spot for swimming or snorkeling in its warm waves. Nights here are spectacular; on clear evenings, the sky is spangled with millions and millions of stars. 

This paradisiacal destination shares the Mexican Caribbean’s signature intensely blue water and soft, white sand that attracts travelers from both Mexico and abroad. 

Playa del Secreto is also a sanctuary for sea turtles, where they nest and hatch their eggs. It’s common to spot iguanas freely roaming the area. 

Although being surrounded by nature might be considered the main attraction, there are also activities to try out during your visit. The main option is snorkeling—take advantage of its proximity to the Great Mayan Reef. You can also make the most of the calm waves for sports like kayaking and paddleboarding.

How to Get to Playa del Secreto

If coming from Cancún, take federal highway 307 towards Tulum. After passing the entrance to Puerto Morelos, approximately 8 miles on your left, you’ll see a small rustic sign indicating the way to Playa del Secreto. Take the first U-turn to reach the entrance. 

If arriving from Playa del Carmen, also take federal highway 307 towards Cancún. At kilometer 22, turn right at the sign for the way to the beach.

To fully enjoy this destination, we recommend not forgetting the following: 

• Beach umbrella and, if possible, beach chairs. 
• Garbage bags to clean up; please take your trash with you to dispose of it appropriately.
• Drinking water. 
• Light snacks. 
• Cash for any additional expenses; it’s possible that cards may not be accepted at this destination.
