Located in the city’s Historic Center, this theater has witnessed several major events in Mexico’s real-life history. It’s where the Mexican National Anthem was performed for the first time and the place where, 13 years later, Maximilian I was sentenced to death. It’s also the site where the 1917 Mexican Constitution became the law of the land.
What You Should Know
The chandelier that hangs majestically inside the Teatro de la República was a gift from the Austrian Crown. It commemorates the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Mexico after the execution of Maximilian I.
