International Festival of Marimba Players

Today, the marimba is famous for being a musical instrument with multiple possibilities, one that conserves tradition whilst innovatively entertaining.  

From this perspective and with the support of the Consejo Estatal para las Culturas y las Artes (State Board of Culture and Arts – Coneculta), every year the Festival Internacional de Marimbistas takes place in the Teatro de la Ciudad “Emilio O. Rabasa”, a theater in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. 

This event constitutes an important encounter that brings together great percussionists, marimba builders, researchers and enthusiasts, who represent the most prominent elements of “las maderas que cantan” (singing wood) around the world.
