Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

Located along the Costa Grande of Guerrero, Ixtapa–Zihuatanejo is formed by two neighboring destinations with distinct identities. Ixtapa was developed in the late twentieth century as a planned tourist center, designed to offer infrastructure such as hotels, golf courses, and accessible beaches. Its layout includes broad roads, resort complexes, and areas dedicated to recreation and water sports.

A few kilometers away, Zihuatanejo developed organically as a fishing community. Its urban structure is more compact, with narrow streets, a central waterfront, and neighborhoods built around the bay. The Paseo del Pescador connects key points along the shoreline, where boats arrive daily with fresh catch that supplies local restaurants.

The contrast between the two areas defines the destination. Visitors can experience modern accommodations and organized activities in Ixtapa, then shift to Zihuatanejo for a more local perspective shaped by fishing, small businesses, and regional cuisine.

The surrounding environment includes beaches, coastal lagoons, and tropical vegetation. These landscapes support activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and wildlife observation, while also reflecting the ecological diversity of the Pacific coast.
