Take a ride in a calandria, a type of horse-drawn carriage, down the main streets of the city’s Historic Center. You can see the buildings, monuments, and plazas of this so-called “capital blanca” (white city) from another angle. Look for Teatro Peón Contreras or the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. They are called calandrias because they used to be painted yellow, the same as a songbird with this name.
