Walk through its Neighborhoods
When visiting Mérida, you must roam through its neighborhoods. They hold stories and customs that provide a deeper understanding of this white city. You could start in the Barrio de Santa Ana neighborhood and look for the lovely Ermita de Santa Isabel. Drink a coffee in Santa Lucía park and listen to the troubadour folk singers while admiring the hermitage. The neighborhood Barrio de Santiago is home to a church of the same name holding the remains of Fray Luis de Piña y Mazo, one of Yucatan’s first bishops. Barrio de Mejorada is home to Museo de Arte Popular – Casa Molina’s exhibits on folk art, the church and former convent La Mejorada, plus the Museo de la Canción Yucateca, promoting the Yucatan’s unique music and heritage.
