Álvaro Obregón Monument

Surrounded by important sculptures, the monument commemorates the death of the military general Álvaro Obregón.

Inside the Parque de la Bombilla, on the same spot where Álvaro Obregon was assassinated by José de León Toral, this art-deco style monument was erected, designed by the architect Enrique Aragón Echegaray.

This large structure in the shape of a pyramid has stood on this circular base since 1935. In front of it, a water mirror completes the view.

Inside, the monument boasts an octagonal ground plan, its walls and floors are made of pink and black marble. On the altar is a bronze figure of the general, and above it is an eagle with its wings spread wide. On each side is a sculpture of a revolutionary soldier. For a long time, the arm of Álvaro Obregón was displayed here, the one he lost during the battles between constitutionalists and the villistas (Pancho Villa’s supporters).
