Necaxa Hydroelectric System
Sistema Hidroeléctrico NecaxaThe Necaxa Hydroelectric System was inaugurated in the early 20th century as part of a string of major projects headed by Porfirio Díaz. It was the first to bring electricity to Mexico’s central plateau. It consists of five dams (one of them, El Tejocotal, is found in the state of Hidalgo, the other four can be found surrounding Huauchinango). It’s lucky for us that the dams are not purely functional but can also be enjoyed for their attractive waterscapes.
