Cacaxtla means “place of the cacaxtles.” These were a type of rudimentary backpack made with sticks that the indigenous people used to carry things. One of the highlights of the remains is the Gran Basamento, a large architectural complex with connected structures from various stages that feature sophisticated murals that are truly unique. Nearby Xochitécatl was once a ceremonial center that mainly focused on the worship of fertility and invoking rain.
