Enjoy Classic Bars
At night, Tijuana’s heart is rejuvenated when the doors to the bars are flung open. Revelers come and go between dinners, drinks, dancing and many stories. Bar Nelson, the oldest bar in the city, is frequented for its good music and for their house drink, La Especial. A few blocks away to the south is Calle Sexta, where Dandy del Sur has stood for decades, as well as the dance hall La Estrella. The first is an obligatory stop for visitors to Tijuana; its atmosphere, the beers and the music have attracted stars such as Gustavo Cerati, Manu Chao, Alejandro González Iñárritu and many more. As for La Estrella, its live music dancefloor is always bustling, just like Las Pulgas.
In 2009, La Mezcalera arrived on the scene as a good option for listening to good music and trying mescal in different combinations. A number of other venues have joined them in their ambition to provide a never-ending party, such as Elvira Bar; a place inspired by the movie Scarface, which is why its style is so eighties and why it’s named after Tony’s wife. Every drink here will remind you of characters and situations: Hey Frank! has spiced rum, gin, almond syrup, pineapple juice, lime and raspberry; Rebenga is tequila, white rum, gin, oil and Elvira coke or The World Is Yours, with spiced rum, almond essence, orange juice and pineapple juice.
