Escape to Ocosingo
Halfway between Palenque and San Cristóbal de las Casas is the town of Ocosingo. Days here revolve around the Iglesia de San Jacinto, a Dominican church from the 16th century. Its inhabitants make cheese, carve wood, and create baskets and textiles. It also has a market that every afternoon becomes a festival of colors and embroidery. During your visit to Palenque, it’s well worth stopping for a while to wander through this town, enclosed by the Lacandon Jungle.
