Tlalpujahua Convent and Chapel

Convento de San Francisco and Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

Visit this interesting Franciscan structure, evidence of the region’s mining fortunes.

Both the convent and the chapel date from colonial times. The chapel also boasts decoration by master craftsman Joaquín Orta Menchaca, and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is by famous painter Miguel Cabrera. It is worth a visit both for its artistic and historic value. Leona Vicario and Andrés Quintana Roo were married here.
